About AFC: Communications Internship

The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) is seeking a responsible and motivated individual to work as a Communications Intern.

Reporting to the Communications Coordinator, it is anticipated that the Communications Intern will assist with the following tasks:

  • Write/edit articles for AFC publications
  • Write and update content for AFC's websites
  • Write media alerts for AFC events
  • Conduct follow-up calls with media to ensure alert or release has been received
  • Assist in creation of graphics (if skills apply) for publication and web
  • Update and add contacts to media list
  • Maintain media clippings folder
  • Research web analysis functionality and search function capabilities
  • Perform quality assurance checks on website to ensure content and navigation are comprehensive and comprehensible
  • Perform outreach with other health/HIV-related websites to establish links to AFC on various sites
  • Take digital pictures at AFC events
  • Attend AFC events and assist in promotional activities
  • Update AFC style guide
  • Clerical work as needed

Qualifications: Qualified candidates must be able to devote at least six months, and a minimum of 15 hours per week, subject to staff needs and intern availability. The intern will be required to travel to the Loop for daily activities. Desired qualities include excellent writing and editing skills; strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and if possible, Quark XPress, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Access; experience pitching stories to media; a firm grasp of current Internet research techniques. Must be organized, kind, funny, intelligent, laid-back and an all around wonderful person. Journalism, Communications, and English majors are encouraged to apply.

Stipend: A stipend may be available to interns who meet specific requirements. Please inquire.
