HIV/AIDS Advocacy in the Heartland
Great Lakes AIDS Policy Connection
The AIDS Foundation of Chicago, in partnership with the Minnesota AIDS Project, launched the Great Lakes AIDS Policy Connection (GLAPC) in 2005, to link together Midwestern AIDS advocates and strengthen their policy work. Since establishing this network, the geography of the participants has extended beyond the Great Lakes region to include nearly each of the Midwestern states. GLAPC currently counts nine states (IL, IN, IA, MI, MN, MO, NE, OH, and WI) and eleven agencies as active members dedicated to advancing sound HIV/AIDS policies in their individual states. Through sharing winning strategies, best practices, and organizing tools, GLAPC participants are putting HIV/AIDS on the agendas of state and federal policymakers.
