Identifying Your Elected Officials Because lawmakers are most responsive to the concerns of their constituents, AFC encourages all AIDS advocates to identify their representatives in local, state and federal positions. Contacting your elected officials on pressing AIDS issues is key to effective AIDS advocacy. Lawmakers need to know that HIV/AIDS is important to their constituents. To determine who represents you in the Illinois General Assembly and in Congress, visit the Illinois State Board of Elections. You will need to supply your address when prompted. If you have any problems identifying your elected officials, please contact Trina Nelson for assistance. Illinois Congressional Districts: Color

Guide to Your Elected Officials: AFC has created a simple form for advocacy network members to record contact information for their local, state, and federal representatives. Download it now and distribute it to your coworkers, clients, friends, and family. Keep the completed guide in a convenient location. Refer to it when you receive an Action Alert requesting you to contact your elected officials. Please note that some Action Alerts will request assistance contacting a specific elected official. Throughout the year, contact your legislators to ask them to support AIDS issues, to provide any agency updates, to notify them of new or emerging HIV/AIDS trends in your community, to schedule an office visit, and/or to thank them for any support granted. |
