Register to Vote: Elections Are Feb. 27

Make sure your voice is heard in the next election. If you have moved recently or are not registered to vote, you must register by January 30, 2007 to participate in the upcoming municipal elections. In Chicago, the mayor, city treasurer, city clerk, and all 50 aldermen are on the ballot. Elections are Tuesday, February 27, 2007.

BE HEARD: REGISTER TO VOTE
Make a difference in your city, state, and country!

Many people think that their single vote won't make a difference in the outcome of an election, but in 2000 we learned that even in a presidential race, every vote counts! Exercising your right to vote is the easiest way to have a say in how our government works.

To register in Illinois you must:

  • be a United States citizen
  • be at least 18 years old on the next election
  • live in your election precinct at least 30 days before the next election
  • not be convicted and in jail
  • not claim your right to vote in any other state
  • use a voter registration application card (PDF) available from the State Board of Elections and the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. Online forms are available in Illinois, but must be printed, filled out, and mailed in to your local election authority.

What You Can Do

  • Find out if you are registered to vote. If you are not sure whether you are registered, call the Illinois State Board of Elections at 1-800-923-VOTE. They will direct you to your local election official who can tell you if you are registered.
  • Register to Vote. If you are not registered or have recently moved, you can call Trina Nelson at the AIDS Foundation of Chicago at 312-922-2322 to get a voter registration card and an information packet that will help you register. You can also register at the Department of Motor Vehicles, at the office of any elected official in your area, your county or state Board of Elections office, or download (PDF) and print a voter registration application form on the internet.

To receive voter registration packets or additional information, please contact Trina Nelson at 312-922-2322.
