Eleven Community Organizations Recognized at 2009 Global Initiative Reception
Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center will partner with the Abayudaya Health Department in Uganda to offer cervical cancer screening in conjunction with ongoing HIV screening for local women. Bickford-Land Clinic for Mothers and Children will provide medical and psychological care and education to mothers and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Vietnam. The Chicago Recovery Alliance will provide harm reduction training for incarcerated injection drug users in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Children's Place Association will continue to provide social support services for children and families affected by HIV/AIDS in northern Haiti. Erie Family Health Center will fund HIV prevention education and outreach and supplies for a small community in Nicaragua. Men and Women in Prison Ministries will construct and furnish an orphanage in Benin, West Africa. The Nyansha Project will fund a full-time medical officer at their clinic in rural Tanzania, serving children and adults living with HIV/AIDS. The Rafiki Collaborative will expand home-based care services for people living with HIV/AIDS in Thigio, Kenya. Salud Latina will continue supporting and strengthening community-based service providers in El Salvador. WE-ACTx will fund support groups and activities for children and youth affected by HIV/AIDS in Rwanda. World Bicycle Relief will provide 50,000 bicycles to improve educational, health, and economic outcomes for children, teachers, and community leaders in Zambia.
