Our work

Illinois Alliance for Sound AIDS Policy (IL ASAP) is a project of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) to develop, nurture and support statewide policy and advocacy leaders in Illinois.

IL ASAP exists to increase the number of people, both HIV-positive and HIV-negative, involved in HIV advocacy, and to build stronger bonds within and between every region of the state. Through IL ASAP, AFC increases advocacy on behalf of people living with and vulnerable to HIV at the local, state and national levels.

IL ASAP members:

  • Advocate for issues affecting people living and communities most vulnerable to HIV
  • Empower people to use their voice to make a difference
  • Enhance relationships with our elected and appointed officials as well as the media so that we may speak truth to power in intelligent, strategic and effective ways.
  • Train leaders in their communities to help recruit and cultivate a new crop of HIV advocates

What do we provide?

  • Trainings on basic local and state advocacy
  • Advanced advocacy training for leaders to do national advocacy
  • Research tools to stay up-to-date on advocacy progress
  • Connection with advocates and other advocacy organizations across the country

Who can apply?

  • People that are living with HIV or AIDS
  • HIV-negative advocates for people living with HIV
