The AIDS Foundation of Chicago's Service Providers Council (SPC) offers scheduled prevention conferences multiple times a year. HIV prevention providers, consumers, and advocates are encouraged to participate in AFC's HIV prevention conferences. Each prevention conference focuses on different target populations, offering strategies relating to various topics including HIV prevention policy, research, and risk-reduction. |

Tuesday, June 29, 2010: "Triple Jeopardy: Sexual Violence, HIV/AIDS and Female" Recently, the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Communities of Color Collaborative (3C) and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women sponsored a one day conference entitled “Triple Jeopardy: Sexual Violence, HIV/AIDS and Female†on Tuesday, June 29, that explored current research needed to understand how the areas of sexual violence and HIV overlap. The conference offerd over 185 service providers and community members the opportunity to network, build skills, and develop action plans. Keynote speaker Celeste Watkins-Hayes, PhD, Associate Professor, Northwestern University, gave a talk entitled "Interlocking Inequalities: HIV/AIDS and Black Women in the Wake of Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire." Celeste gave a culturally illuminating presentation on the relationship between violence in women and HIV infection. Her data and insights on why women are increasingly vulnerable to infection included descriptions of culturally based gender inequities, poverty, and lack of education. The conference had a variety of workshops, panel discussions and keynotes.
