AFC Mourns the Loss of Two Community Leaders

Jonathan McClure
Robert Ames

AFC mourns the loss of two champions in the fight against HIV/AIDS.  Robert Ames served as a founding member of the Men of Color HIV/AIDS Coalition (MOCHA), which was designed to expand services by and for gay men of color.  He went on to lead Task Force AIDS Prevention and remained involved in the GLBT community until his death on November 17, 2005.  Jonathan McClure, who passed away on November 19, 2005, was a longtime HIV prevention educator and advocate.  He served as National Faculty for the American Red Cross African American HIV/AIDS Program, served as the chair of West Side HIV/AIDS Regional Planning Council, and was a member of the HIV Prevention Planning Group for several years.  After working with the Chicago Department of Public Health in the Tuberculosis Program, his most recent position was Title II Program Manager at the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. He is survived by his wife Joanne and their two daughters, as well as a grandson Matthew.

We send our deepest condolences to both Robert’s and Jonathan’s family and friends, and celebrate their lives in service to the community.
