Last week, Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the Medicaid Drug and Therapeutics Board Transparency Bill (HB 2259). HB 2259 seeks to increase transparency in the decision-making process and makeup of the Medicaid Drug and Therapeutics (D&T) Board.
The D&T Board along with the Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) determines the fee-for-service medication formulary in Illinois' Medicaid program.
This law is an important step to increase Medicaid’s transparency and accountability when determining which life-saving medications to provide to Medicaid recipients.
Medicaid is the #1 insurer for millions of people living with chronic illness like HIV, mental health and other diseases. The ability to access life-saving drugs is essential for people living with chronic illness.
The bill was sponsored by Rep. Sara Feigenholtz (D-Chicago) in the House and Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) in the Senate. AFC is grateful to Gov. Pritzker, Rep. Feigenholtz, and Sen. Morrison for their leadership on this issue.
