Tanya Lopez, MS, American Medical Association(she/her/hers) joined the AFC board in 2022. She currently serves as the Director for the Council on Medical Education for the American Medical Association (AMA). Tanya provides leadership in all aspects of the work of the Council, which reviews and proposes policies and standards across the continuum of undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education. She is also actively involved in AMAs efforts to embed equity in medicine and medical education. Ms. Lopez has been an outspoken advocate for minoritized and marginalized communities for more than 20 years, specializing in program development, community organization, strategic planning, grant management and government compliance. Before joining the AMA, she held positions with the Chicago Department of Public Health, Loyola University Chicago, Medical and Health Research Association of New York City and AIDS Network. In addition to being an alum of the AFC Public Health Boot Camp, she has also received a M.S. with distinction in public service management from DePaul University, a B.A. in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a certificate in project management from Loyola University Chicago.
