Monthly Giving

Friends of the Foundation

Every day, the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) works hard to make sure people living with or vulnerable to HIV and AIDS in the Chicago area have access to life-saving prevention, treatment, care and support services. Consistent, monthly donations make a lasting impact at AFC, because they ensure that month after month, our clients have access to the life-saving resources.

Donors who give monthly are welcomed to AFC’s Friends of the Foundation program. You can choose an amount that fits easily into your monthly budget; that amount will automatically be deducted from your credit or debit card — saving you the hassle of writing multiple checks.

Friends of the Foundation Benefits:

  • Bi-annual updates on AFC’s programs and the impact of your dollars
  • AFC’s monthly e-newsletter
  • Opportunities to get more involved with AFC throughout the year through volunteering and attending events
  • A year-end summary of your total monthly gifts for the year (mailed in January)
  • Personalized support from AFC’s Director of Individual Giving to answer questions about the program and your contributions

Planned giving and leaving AFC in your will

AFC is better positioned than ever before to end the HIV epidemic and sustain our progress. By supporting AFC through your estate plans, you are establishing a philanthropic legacy that will continue to provide care and prevention services to individuals living with, affected by, and vulnerable to HIV and homelessness in Chicago and beyond.

To notify AFC of your bequest intention, please fill out our Bequest Notification Form

Sable Sherer Legacy Society

The Sable Sherer Legacy Society recognizes individuals who have included AFC in their estate plans. Sable Sherer Legacy Society members receive the following benefits:

  •  Recognition on AIDSChicago.org
  •  Monthly e-newsletter
  •  Invitation to AFC’s Annual Meeting
  •  Semi-annual program updates
  •  Invitations to exclusive AFC events

Planned Giving Options

There are a variety of ways to support the AFC through your estate plans, and each option has its own tax benefits. Informed decisions about your estate planning options can help you ensure that you have provided for yourself, your family and your loved ones while also supporting AFC. AFC encourages you to consult with an estate-planning professional when considering a planned gift.

A bequest is an easy but important way for you to ensure that your assets are distributed the way you wish.  You can designate AFC as the recipient of a cash gift, a percentage, or residual remainder of your estate or living trust. You can also designate how your bequest will be used by restricting the funds to support a particular program.

Bequest sample language includes:

I give, devise and bequeath ____(percentage or dollar amount) of my estate (or specific assets) for the benefit of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, FEIN 36-3412054, to be used for its general purposes.

Other options include: real estate, IRAs, insurance policies and personal property, gift annuities (immediate and deferred) and stock are considered planned gifts and may offer substantial tax advantages. A meaningful donation can be made by simply naming AFC as the beneficiary of an existing account or policy.  For insurance policies, make sure to name AFC as both the owner and the beneficiary in order for this to transfer smoothly; AFC can only accept paid-up policies.

Before making your estate plans, we recommend consulting with a qualified estate planner, financial planner and/or attorney. Our Bequest Notification Form can be filled out and sent electronically or printed and mailed to 200 W. Monroe St., #1150, Chicago, IL 60606 and our tax ID number is 36-3412054.

If you have questions about establishing a planned gift, please contact Sacha Urban, Director, Individual & Planned Giving, at 312-784-9072 or [email protected].

THANK YOU to our current and past Sable Sherer Legacy Society members.

Other Ways to Give

In-kind Gifts

AFC is grateful for needed in-kind contributions and services. These can include donated printing, professional services, items for special event auctions, or some other unique contribution you or your business has to offer. Depending on the size of the gift, we will acknowledge your in-kind contribution or service in our publications and/or at our special events. You will receive an acknowledgement thanking you for your donation, in keeping with IRS regulations. In general, AFC will not accept gifts of used cars for resale.  If you would like to donate goods or services, please contact Sacha Urban, Director, Individual & Planned Giving, at 312-784-9072.

Memorial/Tribute Gifts

Through AFC, you have the opportunity to honor a special person or make a memorial donation and help those impacted by HIV/AIDS in Illinois and beyond. With your donation we will mail a personalized card and message to the person or family of the person in whose name the donation was made. You can make a memorial or tribute gift through our online donation form.

Are you planning a wedding or special occasion where donors can give as a tribute or memorial gift? Please contact Sacha Urban, Director, Individual & Planned Giving, at 312-784-9072 or [email protected] and we can set up a customized option for your activity.

Stocks and Securities

A gift of appreciated stocks, bonds, mutual funds and other securities can benefit AFC while providing you with a charitable tax deduction. In addition, by making a gift of appreciated securities, you may avoid capital gains taxes. In order to initiate a charitable securities transfer, please:

  1. Call Sacha Urban, Director, Individual & Planned Giving, at 312-784-9072 or email [email protected]. Please provide:
  •  Your name, address and phone number
  •  The name of the stock
  •  The number of shares contributed
  •  The approximate date the transaction was made or will be made

This will ensure that we correctly credit the gift to you and our bank is aware of the stock transfer.

  1.  Ask your stockbroker or bank to deliver the stock or securities to:
  •  Bank Name: Bank of America
  •  Account Name: AIDS Foundation of Chicago
  •  Account number: 628-03042
  •  DTC Number: 8862

It can take up to several weeks for the stock to be credited to our account and for us to receive notice. When we get notice that the stock has been received, we will generate an acknowledgment letter that includes the number of shares, stock name, and the date the stock was received. AFC encourages you to consult with your financial advisor when making a gift of stock.
