AIDS Run & Walk Chicago emerged a winner on Thursday, May 30, receiving a Golden Trumpet Award for “Best Special Event or Observance,” presented by the Publicity Club of Chicago (PCC).
The prestigious Trumpet Awards honor individual achievement in the planning and execution of public relations initiatives.
“Each category has been judged by a panel of expert communications professionals,” said Luke Cushman, PCC Board President. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity and breakthrough programs from our Chicagoland practitioners.”
“Revitalizing AIDS Run & Walk Chicago enhanced the overall event experience,” said Rhett Lindsay, AFC’s Director of Fundraising Events. “It reconnected us to the participants and donors in a different way, and ultimately increased the net return of $435,000 to AFC and the events’ 35 beneficiaries.”
Registration for the 2013 AIDS Run & Walk is now open at aidsrunwalk.org. Both runners and walkers are encouraged to participate in the 5K or 10K at Soldier Field on Saturday, September 28.
The Run & Walk is a major fundraising arm for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) and its numerous CommunityDirect partners, who raised over $263,000 last year. What’s more, AFC helped turn Soldier Field into a sacred place for people affected by HIV/AIDS.
Panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt were displayed throughout the stadium, and celebrities performed as runners and walkers crossed the finish line. The star-studded lineup included comedian Wanda Sykes, The Voice’s Jamar Rogers, B.E.T.’s Adam Emil, and entertainer Michael Feinstein.
